in preparations for governorate Council elections IHEC holds its conference on opening registration for political parties and alliances
On Monday, June 26, 2023, the Independent High Electoral Commission held a conference on the registration of political parties and alliances, in the presence of the chairman of the board of Commissioners, judge Omar Ahmed Mohammed, the head of the Electoral Department, judge Abbas Farhan al-Fatlawi, deputy chairman of the board of Commissioners, judge Fayad Yassin Hussein, member of the board of Commissioners, judge Hussein Abdul Sadaa, as well as the director general of the Department of political parties and organizations, Dr. Hayman Tahsin and the international Electoral Assistance Team (UNAMI), with the participation of a number of security leaders and representatives of alliances and political parties.
The chairman of the board of commissioners opened the conference with a speech in which he explained that “the importance of such meetings and conferences is in achieving direct communication, listening to observations and putting forward everything that can push the electoral process forward, especially at this stage in preparation for the provincial council elections, as the board of Commissioners announces today the first steps in that regard, as it was decided to open registration for political parties and coalitions wishing to participate in the process of provincial council elections non organized with a region for 2023, starting from 1 / 7 / 2023 and to the end 30/ 7 / 2023”.
The chief electoral officer (CEO) said during a speech at the conference: “the Council of commissioners, at its current session, stands for the second time on the threshold of a new national responsibility, namely, the holding of governorate council elections non organized with a region, which was scheduled for December 18 next, and meeting today is only to strive towards achieving the ultimate goal of the success of these elections, for which we continue to prepare and work.
During the conference, the participants ‘ questions and inquiries were answered by the relevant departments of the Election Commission regarding the axes of instructions for registering parties and alliances and timeline, in addition to explaining the system of candidates for the governorate and district council elections scheduled to be held next December.
