UNAMI organizes a training workshop in cooperation with the Elections Commission in Basra Governorate
A training workshop was held in Basra Governorate for a group of IHEC employees and a number of civil society organizations under the title (Enhancing the participation rate in the elections and creating sustainable interaction between the partners of the electoral process) under the direct supervision of the Electoral Assistance Team in Iraq (UNAMI) and in cooperation with the IHEC for Elections. On Monday and Tuesday corresponding to 12-13 June 2023.
On the first day, the official of the Electoral Relations Division in the Department of Media and public outreach Mr. Al-Hassan Qabas, gave a welcoming speech in which he thanked UNAMI for the Electoral Commission’s work in all stages of the electoral process and stressed the importance of the role of civil society organizations in educating voters as the main and important partner in the electoral process. Senior electoral expert in UNAMI (Chibi Habibi), said that “the aim of these workshops organized by UNAMI is educational messages, sharing of ideas, and great coordination between the two sides as one team.”
Mr. Salam Al-Haddad, responsible for one of the organizations, gave a presentation on the importance of the organizations’ work in creating an suitable environment for elections, educating voters, and motivating them to participate in the elections.
On the second day, Mr. Prabim Kumar, Communications Adviser at the United Nations Mission, presents the term electoral disinformation and misleading information and combating it together by the Electoral Commission and civil society organizations, pointing to the importance of addressing such information before it spreads and preventing it from achieving its abusive goals.
It is noteworthy that the Electoral Commission is working intensively with international bodies in forming professional partnerships aimed at developing and supporting its employees through holding workshops and training courses in electoral affairs.
