The Chairman of BoC welcomes the visit of DSRSG of the political Affairs and electoral assistance for Iraq
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, the commissioner, Judge (Jaleel Adnan Khalaf), welcomes today, Wednesday, at the headquarters of IHEC, the DSRSG ( Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations in Iraq for Political Affairs and Electoral Assistance, Ms. (Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, ), accompanied by the chief advisor of the “UNAMI” mission (Dr. Aamir Arain).
The meeting was attended by the Judges(Fayyad Yassin Hussein), Judge (Aamir Musa Muhammad) and Judge (Ali Rashid Muhammad).
At the beginning, the Chairman of theBoard of Commissioners welcome Ms.Ingibjörg and congratulated her Excellency on the occasion of assuming her duties, expressing his happiness that her visit to the commission was her first activity in Baghdad.
The two parties talked about all the procedures that the Commission is undertaking, in the framework of updating the voters’ data, regarding the dates for registering political alliances and receiving lists of candidates, as well as clarifying the nature of the challenges that the Board of Commissioners seeks to overcome, with regard to OCV elections, in order to reach the expected electoral maturity.
Emphasizing that the date for holding elections on 10/10/2021 is inevitable and obligatory based on the provisions of Article (8): First of the Elections Law No. 9 of 2020.
Finally, Ms. Ingibjörg emphasized on the support of the United Nations Mission in Iraq to IHEC, and providing full assistance till the completion of the upcoming elections.
