To consolidate the foundations of democracy and to spread and strengthen the electoral culture, IHEC adopts the electoral awareness project, as it seeks to build partnership with the institutions of the state in spreading electoral awareness by conducting a simulation (voting process) for school and university students by seeking to coordinate work with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Education.
On the other hand, IHEC is working to prepare its staff for the upcoming electoral events by preparing a training plan for the coming year 2022 that includes more than 80 training workshops targeting the staff of the Commission. In addition to that, the electoral district offices are working to train registration center staff on the use of the biometric registration device and how to take the ten fingerprints of the voter, his photographs as well as the basis for entering voters’ data electronically, as the Al-Muthanna Governorate Electoral Office has started this work.
Under the instruction of the CEO chief executive officer , judge(Abbas Farhan Hassan), the Electoral Equipment Maintenance and Rehabilitation Center works to rehabilitate the center’s halls and work on preparing a comprehensive inventory of electronic devices, their maintenance and preservation, and taking preventive safety requirements in coordination with the Civil Defense Directorate.
In a related context, the Operations and Information Technology Department works to communicate with the GEOs to ensure the eligibility and suitability of the schools used as registration centers to serve the security and safety of voters. On this basis, the process of changing the locations of a number of registration centers in the two governorate elections offices Baghdad / Karkh and Al- Najaf Al-Ashraf
In regard to modern technological methods for storing and classifying information, the Information Technology Department in the Operations Department is discussing with the United Nations Assistance Mission (UNAMI) ways to develop a data security protection system and a communications system.
The United Nations team is also working with the relevant departments of the Commission to study the challenges that faced the electoral process, especially IHEC official website during the election period and to announce the results to develop a future plan to update the website to suit the large number of users.
After completing the tabulation of polling officials’ data, a special committee works to check this data in preparation for their rewards.
