His Excellency the prime minister, Mr. Mohammed Shaya al-Sudani, welcomed the chairman of the Board of Commissioners and members of the Independent High Electoral Commission to discuss the preparations and arrangements underway to hold the Iraq- Kurdistan’s region Parliament elections which had been scheduled to be conducted on October 20, 2024, H.E. Stressed on the government’s support for the efforts of IHEC and securing all the requirements of the electoral process to be held in accordance with international standards.

The IHEC confirmed its full readiness to conduct the electoral process, in cooperation with the United Nations Electoral Assistance Team by providing technical advice to the commission, as this came through a statement delivered by the chairman of the board of Commissioners judge (Omar Ahmed Mohammed) at a press conference, in which he pointed to the keenness of the IHEC, represented by the board of Commissioners, and the Central Committee to conduct the process of the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament’s elections headed by Judge (Amer al-Husseini), to work professionally and impartially; to manage an organized and fair electoral process that gains the confidence of the Iraqi people in the Kurdistan region.

The commission’s effort is focused on the distribution of the remaining (120,717) Biometric Voter Cards, located in (173) registration centers, and the commission will continue to distribute them until the end of the official working day on October 15, as the total voters who have the electoral card reached (2,778,898) voters, out of ( 2,899,615) biometric registered voters, will vote at (1,266) polling stations out of ( 6.318) polling station for the General vote, which will be held on October 20, while voters of the Special voting from the security forces and agencies will vote at (165) polling stations out of (749) stations distributed in the region, as well as eight other governorates Outside the region in ( Baghdad / Karkh, Rusafa, Nineveh, Diyala, Salah al-Din, Anbar, Wasit, Kirkuk), on October 18 2024.

The Election Commission has prepared all the logistical materials for the polling day, as it printed (3,077,550) ballot papers for General voting, as well as (251,700) papers for special voting, which included (136) electoral lists of (1191) candidates, including (368) women candidates, (84) individual candidates for general seats, (20) individual candidates for Turkmen seats, and (18) individual candidates for Christian seats of.

The commission selected (40,901) polling officers and trained them on voting procedures, the mechanism of using the (7,067) electoral devices, including (P-COS) the results acceleration devices and the (VVDs)verification devices, and (1,431) V-sat transmission devices, as well as spare devices.

The Election Commission has set a plan to distribute (22,283) cameras; (4) cameras were distributed on each polling station, two cameras for each polling station, (4) spare cameras for each registration center, as well as (50) cameras distributed to (4) audit centers. This is a confirmation of the commission’s efforts to ensure the integrity of the electoral process

With regard to the process of the electoral observation, the IHEC continues to approve and issue identification cards until the end of the official working day of this October 15 the number of international observers has reached (1,527) observers, as well as the accreditation of (3,100) local observers, and (30,573) agents of a political party, until the 13th of this September.

The IHEC through the distributed monitoring committees in the region, continues to follow up on violators of the electoral campaign regulation, as (26) violations were registered, while the number of electoral campaign complaints reached (40) complaints until the 13th of this month; to be submitting to the board of Commissioners to take legal action against them.
